Creation of the Pro-Choice Union:
It all started with the Covid-19 Pandemic, and the unreasonable mandates employers placed on their employees as sanctioned by the Queensland State Government. These mandates sought to have employees injected with an experimental mRNA drug, or be faced with losing their employment, and the ability to provide for themselves, and their families.
When these mandates presented themselves at the City of Gold Coast Council, employees looked to the multiple Unions already established for employees within the City. These Unions, without regard for or consultation over what their members or prospective members wished regarding the mandates; had already decided that they would support the mandates regarding vaccination.
Many City employees had been abandoned by their so-called defenders, their Union. Employees rallied to fight for their right to bodily autonomy and to provide for themselves and their families without taking an experimental drug which was only ever released under emergency use authorisation, never proven safe, and now found to be more harmful than medically ethical.
The COGC Pro-Choice Alliance was created to combine the strength and voice of City of Gold Coast Employees affected by such mandates. The Alliance grew exponentially every week from its creation, boasting affiliate numbers greater than 500 members, approximately 10 to 15% of City of Gold Coast Council Employees.
With the backing of such numbers and the Alliance leadership led by Adam Warwick, current National Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, moves were made, including finding an elite Legal team which took our fight to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission. This Forced the hand of the City to back off the mandate 1 hour and 3 minutes before the hearing was set to begin. The City had now recognised the united power of the Pro-Choice Alliance, and all employees were able to back down on its mandates and secure the employment futures of all City Employees without losing their bodily autonomy.
After winning the fight for the future employment of the City of Gold Coast Council Employees and helping other vulnerable organisations hoping to follow the Pro-Choice Alliance blueprint, many members suggested to our Alliance leadership that we form our own Union. When consulting our legal team, it was agreed to be our best form of defence against future issues which may arise and the only viable way to to maintain the services and protection of our members. An investigation began into the requirements of starting a Union, which has led us to where we are today, welcoming you as a member into the Pro-Choice Union.
